Bob Weir

“Shaman”

Here is Shaman, a highly inspirational, long overdue painting of Bob Weir, currently heading up his band RatDog. With Bob’s ability to transport a person to higher levels of consciousness and perceptual awareness, I thought this to be a fitting title.

I discovered several images by photographer Vernon Webb of New Jersey and knew they’d make a great painting. Giclee prints have been made from this and are currently being produced.

Robert Hall “Bob” Weir, was born October 16, 1947 and is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, most recognized as a founding member of the Grateful Dead. During his career with the Grateful Dead, Weir played mostly rhythm guitar and sang many of the band’s tunes, becoming the voice of the Dead. As a guitarist, he is known for his unique style of complex voiceleading. After the band disbanded in 1995 after the death of Jerry Garcia, Bob performed with other former members of the Grateful Dead as The Other Ones, later just known as The Dead. Weir also founded and played in several other bands including Kingfish, the Bob Weir Band, Bobby and the Midnites, Scaring the Children, Furthur and RatDog.

I think this portrayal of Bob captures the essence of his intensity and merriment which pours forth in a RatDog show.
I hope Bob makes it into your home and rocks your world!

It was great seeing Bob Weir tear it up at the Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary Fare Thee Well shows in Santa Clara & Chicago along with Phil Lesh, Billy Kreuztmann, Mickey Hart, Trey Anastasio, Jeff Chimenti and Bruce Hornsby. Together they put together a show that no-one present will ever forget.

Thanks George! It was great meeting you & Brittany too. And thanks for taking those cool photos of me. I’m pretty protective of my phone as its my lifeblood when on the road, but I’m glad I let you take those. I’ll send you some shots from the night to your email.
